Lost 2FA Device: How to Regain Account Access
What to do when you lose your phone or authenticator app access on Duel.com: using recovery codes, contacting support, and preventing lockout in the future.

The outcome depends almost entirely on one decision made during initial setup: whether you saved your recovery codes. Option 1: Recovery codes (fastest)
Recovery codes are one-time backup strings generated when you first enable 2FA. Each code works exactly once.
Find your stored recovery codes
Check wherever you saved them during setup: a printed sheet, a password manager secure note, an encrypted file, or a physical safe.
Log in with password plus recovery code
On the login screen, after entering your password, look for a link such as Use a recovery code or Can't access your authenticator? Enter one code.
Reconfigure 2FA immediately
Once logged in, go to security settings, disable the old 2FA entry, and set up a fresh one on your current device. Generate and store new recovery codes.
Verify the old codes are invalidated
After reconfiguration, old recovery codes from the previous setup should no longer work. Confirm by checking the recovery code count in settings.
Option 2: Authenticator app backup
If you used an app with cloud backup, you may not need recovery codes at all.

- Install the same authenticator app on your new or reset device
- Sign in to the app's backup service (Authy PIN, Microsoft account, etc.)
- Confirm the Duel.com entry appears and generates valid codes
- Test by logging in before deleting anything from the old device
Option 3: Support-assisted reset (slowest)
If you have no recovery codes and no app backup, you need the platform's support team to reset 2FA on your account. This is deliberately slow to prevent attackers from social-engineering support into disabling your 2FA.
Contact support through the official channel

Provide verification details
Support will typically ask for information only the account owner would know: registered email, approximate registration date, recent deposit or withdrawal amounts, last login date, or identity documents if KYC was completed.
Wait for the review
Processing can take hours to several business days. Platforms intentionally do not rush 2FA resets because a fast reset helps attackers, not victims.
Set up 2FA again immediately after access is restored
Do not leave the account without 2FA while you "get around to it." Reconfigure on your current device and save new recovery codes.

Preventing lockout in the future
- Store recovery codes offline at the moment of 2FA setup — not later
- Use an authenticator app with encrypted backup (Authy, 1Password)
- Keep at least two recovery codes unused as emergency reserve
- Regenerate recovery codes after using more than half of them
- When changing phones, transfer 2FA before wiping the old device
- Add 2FA to your password manager vault as a backup TOTP source
Changing phones safely
Set up 2FA on the new phone first
Before wiping the old phone, add the Duel.com TOTP entry to your new device's authenticator app. Either scan a fresh QR code from security settings or transfer via your app's backup feature.
Test login on the new device
Log out and log back in using a code from the new device.
Remove the entry from the old device
Only after confirming the new device works.
Generate fresh recovery codes
Regenerate from security settings and store the new set.
